On June 11, 2020 at approximately 1:30 A.M. Lake Havasu City Police Officers were dispatched to the area behind the 2100 block of McCulloch Blvd for a report of a male subject who had discharged a firearm.
Officers arrived within a minute of the call and observed one male subject restraining a second male subject on the ground behind the businesses. A handgun was also seen on the ground several feet away.
Detectives from the Lake Havasu City Police Department responded to investigate the incident. During the investigation it was determined that Robert A. Koerber, a 48-year old Lake Havasu City resident was in an argument with his girlfriend in the parking lot behind the businesses. Koerber left the area, however he returned several minutes later and attempted to enter one of the bars.
Two concerned citizens who had observed the earlier argument between Koerber and his girlfriend attempted to stop Koerber from entering the bar and causing further problems with his girlfriend. Koerber started to walk away but then removed a handgun from his pocket and started to raise it towards the two citizens. One of the citizens immediately tackled Koerber to the ground as Koerber was raising the gun. A single round was fired from the handgun Koerber was holding, striking the second citizen in the forearm. The first citizen continued to wrestle the handgun away from Koerber and a second round was discharged. The second round did not strike anyone.
As a result of the investigation, Robert A. Koerber was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, endangerment and disorderly conduct with a weapon. During his initial appearances, Koerber was held on a $50,000 cash only bond and transferred to the custody of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.
The citizen struck by the bullet was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Lake Havasu City Police Department
