At approximately 5:40 p.m., Monday, January 2, 2017, a husband and wife became separated while hiking on the trails at SARA Park. After an hour of the husband attempting to locate his wife, he called 911 for assistance. The lost hiker was in an area that could not obtain a cell phone signal making it difficult for the firefighters to locate her.

The Mohave County Search and Rescue Team from the Lake Havasu area were requested to respond along with Native Air. Two engine companies and a Battalion Chief responded from the Fire Department, several deputies from the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, and over 20 Search and Rescue personnel. CERT responded to the scene to assist the three agencies with food and water. Crews were able to locate the victim at approximately 10:15 p.m. She had fallen approximately 50 feet down a steep rocky hill. The victim was injured and rescuers had to extricate her using ropes to hoist her up a hill. The victim was transported by Native Air to Havasu Regional Medical Center at 12:30 a.m. in stable condition. Rescue personnel were released from the scene at 2:00 a.m. after hiking back out.
