DESERT RESCUE
July 17, 2023

At approximately 11:00 am on Sunday, July 16, 2023, a male and female in their 30’s called 911 when the female began having heat related issues. The two were hiking the Sara Park trails for approximately three hours. The high temperature of the day was projected at 118 degrees and an excessive heat warning was issued. Two Engines Companies, a Battalion Chief, and two rescue vehicles responded. The hikers were located on the trail eleven minutes after emergency crews arrived. Both hikers were transported to the trailhead and the female was transported to the hospital for heat related issues.

The Lake Havasu City Fire Department cannot stress enough that if you desire to hike in the summer months it is important to start early, carry plenty of water, know the area you are hiking, advise others of your plan, carry a fully charged cell phone, and most of all know you limits. Hiking during heat advisories is not recommended.
