Over the past several weeks, Officers with the Lake Havasu City Police Department have been investigating a male suspect using counterfeit currency in the community. This male had visited several businesses in Lake Havasu City using counterfeit $100.00 bills to make random purchases and, on at least one occasion, received cash back on a purchase.
The male suspect was described as tan or dark skin, in his late 30s or early 40s, with a shaved head and short goatee-style facial hair.
On December 1, 2022, at approximately 7:15 p.m., the same male suspect made a purchase in the 3200 block of Maricopa Avenue with a counterfeit $100.00 bill. On the same date, at approximately 9:45 p.m., a male matching the suspect's description was located in the area and taken into custody without incident. The male was identified as 42-year-old Moreno Valley, California resident Joshua B. Torres.
As a result of the investigations, Joshua B. Torres was arrested for four (4) counts of Fraudulent Schemes and one (1) count of Forgery. During his initial appearances, Torres was held on a $15,000.00 bond and transferred to the custody of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.
