GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES EXECUTIVE ORDER - STAY HEALTHY, RETURN SMARTER, RETURN STRONGER
May 14, 2020

Governor Doug Ducey issues Executive Order, Stay Healthy, Return Smarter, Return Stronger, and announces the state of Arizona has satisfied the gating criteria issued by the Whitehouse and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to begin Phase I of the state’s economic recovery measures. Phase I will promote physical distancing, while encouraging social connectedness and allow business to gradually and safely open in compliance with federal guidelines as the state continues to mitigate and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Aligned with the direction provided by the Governor’s Office, beginning on Friday, May 15, City park amenities are reopened to the public. Beginning on Monday, May 18, Aquatic Center is open for lap swim only, and City facility lobbies are open to the public.

At this time, any closures announced previously remain in place until further notice. Public health orders regarding physical distancing and mass gatherings are still in effect. All individuals should maximize physical distance from others. Social settings of more than 10 people, or socializing in groups of more than 10 people, where appropriate physical distancing may not be practical, should be avoided unless precautionary measures are observed and all vulnerable individuals, including the elderly and individuals with underlying health conditions, are advised and are taking reasonable steps to continue to limit their exposure.

Any business, whether for-profit or non-profit that physically operates in the state and serves the public or as an employer, should develop, establish and implement policies based on guidance from the CDC, Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and ADHS to limit and mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

“I am grateful to all our citizens for doing their part to slow the spread of COVID-19,” said Mayor Cal Sheehy. “As we gradually transition through the next phases, and as more details are shared and clarity is provided, the reopening of additional City programs and services will be shared with the public. In the meantime, it is vital that we continue to follow the CDC guidelines, including continuing to practice good hygiene, staying at home when sick, maintaining physical distancing, and avoiding large groups.”
