At approximately 5:30 p.m., Saturday, October 5, 2024, a neighbor reported a house fire in the 3900 block of Challenger Drive. The first arriving fire company reported smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home. Five engine companies, one medic unit, and a Battalion Chief responded to the incident and gained control of the fire within 25 minutes. Desert Hills Fire Department moved up to assist with other 911 calls during the incident. The occupants were not home at the time of the incident. There were no reported injuries to the firefighters. Crews remained on the scene for an additional two hours conducting salvage operations. The cause of the fire is under investigation. LHCFD CERT crews also responded with ten members to provide support and rehab duties for firefighters.
