Havasu Youth Advisory Council (HYAC), under the guidance of Mayor Mark Nexsen, competes for prize money to improve civic health in their community. The students dedicated most of their summer coming up with a project and meeting with residents, teachers, and community leaders to gain feedback and insight on the community’s needs. They will begin perfecting their pitch in the next couple of weeks. Without giving too much away, they chose to improve the civic health behavior “Actions that Build Community” and will work with neighbors to fix something, thus building social cohesion in our community. They will pitch their plan to the Center for the Future of Arizona and Arizona State University’s Office of Entrepreneurship + Innovation on August 24 at the League of Arizona Cities and Towns Youth Program and then implement their plan in the fall with the community’s support.
