Judge Mitchell Kalauli presents a plaque to Mayor Mark Nexsen thanking him for his service to the Veteran's Treatment Court program. Veterans Court has been in effect since November 8, 2013, and is designed specifically to help rehabilitate U.S. military veterans who have had a run-in with the law. The program is the first of its kind in Western Arizona and is a collaborative effort between the courts, city prosecutors, defense counsel, mental health counselors and the VA to assist the veteran in rehabilitation and re-engagement into society. Mayor Nexsen stated, “Having a Veterans Court in Lake Havasu City has been a goal of mine for some time. I had the opportunity to experience the Phoenix Veterans Court in action and was thoroughly impressed with their results. I appreciate the efforts of Judge Kalauli and everyone involved that made this important endeavor a reality.”
