LAKE HAVASU CITY POLICE INVESTIGATE HOMICIDE
October 08, 2024

On October 6, 2024, at approximately 10:55 p.m., officers from the Lake Havasu City Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 2100 block of Barranca Drive. Upon arrival, officers found a male individual with a gunshot wound to the chest at the rear of the residence. Officers immediately administered lifesaving measures. Lake Havasu City Fire Department personnel arrived shortly after and transported the individual to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the homeowner believed the individual was an intruder and fired in response. The victim was later determined not to be an intruder but a co-habitant of the residence.  The investigation is ongoing, but there is no current threat to the community.

As a result, 52-year-old Lake Havasu City resident Justin Wilcox was arrested and charged with 2nd degree Homicide and Manslaughter. Justin was held on a $500,000 cash-only bond after his initial appearance and transferred to the custody of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Additional details will be released as they become available.
