Lake Havasu City’s next Fire Chief has been selected from a field of 36 applicants after a nationwide search following current Fire Chief Dennis Mueller’s announcement that he will retire as of May 6.  “After 35 years with Lake Havasu City Fire and nine years as its Chief, Dennis Mueller will be missed,” said City Manager Charlie Cassens.  “He built a strong department and provided expert leadership.  We thank him and wish him all the best in this next chapter of his life.”

On Monday, May 23, Brian Davis will report for duty as the City’s next Fire Chief.  Since August of 2010, Davis has been Fire Chief, Director of Fire, EMS, Fire Marshal and Emergency Management Services for the Freeport Fire and EMS Department in Freeport, Texas.  Freeport is a full-service community with a population of approximately 20,000 located on the gulf coast near Houston and Galveston.  Davis began his career in the Fire Service in Michigan in 1997 as a firefighter, working his way up the ranks of Lieutenant in Muskegon and Deputy Chief in Grand Ledge, MI.

A Gulf War veteran and member of Disabled American Veterans, Davis exited the US Marine Corps as Sergeant in 1992.  After leaving the armed forces, Davis was a federal corrections officer for two years and a Michigan state trooper and detective for seven years.

“We had an excellent pool of extremely well qualified applicants, but Brian quickly rose to the top,” Cassens said. “The selection committee was unanimous. Brian is highly motivated, well-educated and eager to get started in Lake Havasu City. And we are ready to welcome him.”

Brian Davis earned his bachelor’s degree in Public Safety from Siena Heights University, Adrian, MI and his Certified Public Manager credential from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX. He also earned his Certified Fire Executive credential through the Texas Fire Chief Academy.
