February 10, 2025

Detectives with the Lake Havasu City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on February 08, 2025, in Mohave Valley, Arizona.

On February 08, 2025, at approximately 04:00 P.M., deputies with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 8200 block of Green Valley Road South in reference to a welfare check of a male subject who was alleged to be suicidal and armed with a knife.

Upon arrival, deputies observed a male in the front yard of the residence holding an object. The object was believed to be a handgun, which the male then pointed at the deputies. In response, one deputy discharged their firearm, striking the male in the chest.

The suspect is identified as 67-year-old Richard Crist, a Mohave Valley, Arizona resident.  Richard was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was later transferred to a Las Vegas hospital to receive further treatment.  Richard is currently in stable condition.

No deputies were injured during this incident. The investigation is ongoing, and the name of the deputy involved in the incident is not being released at this time. It is standard protocol to have an outside agency investigate an officer-involved shooting incident.
