LHCPD Police Explorers Earn Two Trophies in Chandler Competition
January 23, 2018

On Thursday January 11, 2018, twelve Lake Havasu City Police Department explorers traveled to Chandler, Arizona to compete in the 2018 Chandler Tactical Competition, held annually.  This year sixty-four posts from the southwest competed against each other in various events which are designed to promote teamwork, discipline and knowledge of officer duties and procedures.

Lake Havasu City Police Explorer Post #93 competed in eleven team competitions and placed first in the 5.11 Tactical Breaching Event and fourth in the Water Borne Operations Event.   The explorers were accompanied by explorer advisors Officer Mike Thornhill and Officer Dwain Fernandez.

The Lake Havasu City Police Department Explorer Program is a career education program for young men and women ages 14 to 20 years old, giving them a hands-on experience so they have a better understanding of the job of a police officer.  The program helps explorers develop leadership skills and self-confidence as well as learning how the different units of the Lake Havasu City Police Department function together.  The program also builds trust and cooperation between youth and the police department.   Information about the program or how to join can be found at www.lhcaz.gov/police
