Lake Havasu City has seen a recent rise in theft of electric bikes and scooters, along with several road and mountain style bikes at grocery stores, restaurants, and residential garages, prompting the need to raise awareness for prevention.
Since January 2024, there have been more than 15 bicycles reported stolen throughout the downtown business corridor, with five of them being stolen out of open residential garages.
The Lake Havasu City Police Department encourages citizens to protect personal property and prevent the opportunity for theft by recording the make, model, serial number, after-market accessories, and other specific details for easy identification; store it in a safe place, and out of plain view; use a quality lock; attach a GPS tracking device; and remove the battery from the electric bike, if possible, when the bike is left unattended.
Recent investigations have led to the arrest of one suspect who was charged with three separate cases involving bicycle thefts, but thefts are still occurring. Havasu Silent Witness is offering a reward of up to $500 for information leading to the arrest of the subject(s) responsible for the bike thefts.
Additionally, Lake Havasu City Police Department has six bikes that were reported as found property that have not been reported stolen nor is the owner’s information known. If you are missing a bike, please contact the Property and Evidence Unit at 928-854-0808 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, for inquiries and appointments to identify and retrieve your personal property.
Anyone with information as to the recent thefts is asked to call the Lake Havasu City Police Department If you have any information about crimes or wanted criminals, please contact Havasu Silent Witness by phone or email where you can remain anonymous.
