The Lake Havasu City Police Department’s SWAT team responded to the 1900 block of Pima Drive North at approximately 5:15 p.m., Thursday, January 12, 2017, after a report of a subject with a weapon. Two male subjects reported they were doing work at the residence when the home owner, Harold Brown, pointed a gun at them and refused to let them leave. The two subjects were able to get out of the residence unharmed and contacted police.
A perimeter was established around the home and several roads were closed off in the area as SWAT team negotiators communicated with the subject for several hours. Brown fired a round with a shotgun through the front door during negotiations. Around midnight, the subject surrendered and walked out of the residence where he was taken into custody without further incident.
Harold Brown, 54-year old Lake Havasu City resident, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping and discharging a firearm in city limits as result of the investigation.
During his initial appearance on January 13, 2017, Brown was held on an $80,000 bond and transferred to the custody of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.
