Lake Havasu City has created a Certificate of Recognition Program to recognize individuals, groups, and businesses for their water conservation efforts.

On Monday July 17, Mayor Mark S. Nexsen, along with Briana Morgan, Lake Havasu City’s Water Conservation Specialist and Dr. Doyle Wilson, Lake Havasu City’s Water Resource Coordinator, presented Mudshark Brewery with the certificate. Mayor Nexsen said, “Many businesses and individuals take great strides to conserve water in Lake Havasu City, and we should be recognizing them for their efforts. Their endeavor is exactly what the Vision 20/20 Revitalization Plan strives to achieve, so that Lake Havasu City can continue to be a destination of choice. Water is a precious resource and economic asset for Lake Havasu City; without it, our city would not exist.”   

Mudshark Brewery is the second recipient to earn the award this year.  Water consumption at Mudshark Brewery fell dramatically mid 2015 after the business completed some upgrades. The average water consumption for the prior year of 2014 was approximately 174,826 gallons per month. In contrast, the average consumption in 2016 dropped to 85,079 gallons per month. This represents a significant 52% reduction in Mudshark Brewery’s average water consumption. Mudshark attributes their water use reduction to the installation of two 3,000 gallon cisterns at the brewery that capture the RO waste discharge. They then use the RO water waste to clean machinery in the brewery. On average, an RO system wastes four gallons of water for every gallon of filtered water produced. The RO waste discharge is well within the safe drinking water standards and suitable for irrigation or other alternate reuse applications.

Secondly, Mudshark was also recognized for their energy efficiency as energy goes hand in hand with water efficiency and conservation. Mudshark Brewery installed solar panels three years ago allowing them to brew on 80 percent solar.
