The Lake Havasu City Police Department would like to make the community aware of a recent local scam that has been reported.
In this scam, the caller portrays themselves as a representative of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office or other government agency. The caller identification number appears to show up as an official law enforcement phone number, and the caller indicates that the recipient has an arrest warrant out of Mohave County.
The caller indicates to the recipient that this warrant can be taken care of by purchasing a voucher for crypto currency. The caller will then ask for the voucher number for payment and may also request the recipient to report to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office District Substation located at 3500 SR95.
This is a scam. A scam tactic called “spoofing” is used by scammers to make the caller identification appear to be a local number or perhaps even an official law enforcement phone number. If you did not initiate the phone call, be hesitant and use caution with any information you provide to the caller.
The Lake Havasu City Police Department encourages the community to report these types of fraudulent calls and be aware that scammers are constantly devising new schemes in an attempt to get your money. Do not provide your address, phone number, banking, credit card, social security number or any other personal information to anyone that calls you unsolicited.
