The Lake Havasu City Police Department would like to make the community aware of a recent local phone scam that has been reported.
In this phone scam, the caller portrays themselves as either a representative of the Lake Havasu City Police Department or the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office. The caller identification number appears to show up as an official Lake Havasu City Police Department phone number (928-855-1171). The caller indicates to the victim that they have an arrest warrant and can pay money to quash it. The scammer indicates to the recipient that the fees can be taken care of by purchasing gift cards or by purchasing vouchers for crypto currency.
This is a scam. A scam tactic called “spoofing” is used by scammers to make the caller identification appear to be a local number or perhaps even an official law enforcement phone number. If you did not initiate the phone call, be hesitant and use caution with any information you provide to the caller.
As a reminder, Lake Havasu City Police Officers will NEVER contact anyone by phone to solicit money, under any circumstance.
The Lake Havasu City Police Department encourages the community to report these types of fraudulent calls and be aware that scammers are constantly devising new schemes in an attempt to get your money. Do not provide your address, phone number, banking, credit card, social security number or any other personal information to anyone that calls you unsolicited.
