Temporary Dog Park Closures for Non-Routine Maintenance and Turf Recovery
August 01, 2016

In an effort to provide better accommodations at the City’s dog parks, Dillon’s Dog Park (at SARA Park) will be closed from Monday, August 1, 2016, 2016 at 5:30 a.m. to Monday, August 8, 2016 at 6:00 a.m. By closing the facility and asking patrons and their pets to use the other dog parks (Avalon Dog Park and Lions Dog Park at London Bridge Beach) during this time, crews will be able to perform non-routine maintenance (including placement of sod in the bare areas of the large dog park) and allow the turf to recover. We appreciate your assistance and patience.

We anticipate closing the Dylan’s Dog Park at SARA Park four (4) times per year, in addition to the Winterblast closure to effect these changes and improve the facility. We anticipate closing the Lions Dog Park at London Bridge Beach three (3) times per year and Avalon Dog Park twice (2) per year, based on less park use. Each closure would be for one week. Tentative dates for this year’s remaining efforts are as follows:

Dylan’s Dog Park, SARA        08/01/16 to 08/08/16

Lions Dog Park                       08/15/16 to 08/22/16      Deferred

Lions Dog Park                       11/07/16 to 11/14/16

Dylan’s Dog Park, SARA        11/14/16 to 11/21/16

Avalon Dog Park                     12/05/16 to 12/12/16

As a part of our evaluation of these activities, we will be deferring the originally planned closure of Lions Dog Park from August to sometime later in the year or may find this closure not necessary in the future. We will also evaluate the entire process at the end of the year.

We appreciate your patience for these enhanced maintenance closures. For questions or comments on this effort, please contact Mark Clark, Maintenance Services Manager at 928-855-3377 or clarkm@lhcaz.gov
