On October 6, 2024, at approximately 10:55 P.M., officers from the Lake Havasu City Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 2100 block of Barranca Drive. Upon arrival, officers found a male individual with a gunshot wound to the chest at the rear of the residence. Officers immediately administered lifesaving measures. Lake Havasu Fire personnel arrived shortly after and transported the individual to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The investigation indicates that the homeowner believed the individual was an intruder and fired in response. The victim was later identified as 50-year-old Lake Havasu City resident Phillip Wilcox. The victim, the suspect’s brother, resided at the residence with the suspect.
The investigation did not reveal any type of altercation between the subjects before the incident, but it appears that alcohol intoxication was a factor in the incident.
As a result, 52-year-old Lake Havasu City resident Justin Wilcox was arrested and charged with 2nd degree Homicide and Manslaughter. Justin was held on a $500,000 cash-only bond after his initial appearance and transferred to the custody of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.
