If you see or smell sewage, you should call LHC Wastewater at 928-855-3999 right away.
If you detect sewer odors, inside or outside your home, call Wastewater while you smell the odors. We can help you determine where the odors are originating inside your home, such as dry p-traps in unused drains or sewer pipe issues. If you smell sewer odors outside, City crews will be dispatched immediately to identify the cause, such as an odor control system not functioning, an air relief valve, a sewer backup, a roof vent pipe, or other source. It’s important that we are able to smell the odor when we arrive to identify the source.
If you see water flowing from a manhole in the street or from a lift station, call Wastewater immediately.
When you have a backup, it’s important to call Wastewater as well as a plumber. As a property owner, you own your sewer service from your home to the City sewer main. The City owns and maintains the sewer main which is located in the middle of the street. The City cleans and inspects the main lines regularly. City crews use a high pressure jet of water to clean the walls of the sewer main and push material and debris downstream where it is removed at a manhole. If you have a backup, we will inspect the City sewer main and determine if the blockage is in the mainline or your private service line. If the blockage is in your private service line, the homeowner is responsible for clearing those backups.
The most common causes of sewer backups are:
• Putting items down your drain that should be put into your garbage
• Invasive tree roots
• Sewer Pipe problems
Call Wastewater at 928-855-3999 when a plumber will be cleaning your service line. This helps prevent roots and debris from getting pushed out of your private service line to the City main line and causing a backup in the street.
