The Lake Havasu City Police Department has released its Memorial Day Holiday weekend statistics from Friday, May 26 to Monday, May 29, 2023.

At approximately 8:15 a.m., on Tuesday May 24, 2023, a fire was reported in the outdoor cardboard recycle area at Republic Waste Services in the 2000 block of College Dr. The employees discovered smoke coming from the cardboard recycle piles and called 911. The first arriving fire company reported two large cardboard piles on fire and a third pile as an exposure. Three Engine Companies, one Truck Company, and a Deputy Chief responded to the fire and gained control of the fire in two hours.

The Lake Havasu City Police Department will be conducting a traffic and DUI enforcement detail from Friday, May 26 through Monday, May 29, 2023, for the Memorial Day weekend. Officers will provide enhanced traffic and DUI enforcement during the holiday weekend from a grant awarded by the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

The Lake Havasu City Public Works Department, Maintenance Services Division announces the temporary closure of the eastbound lane of Swanson Ave. from Mariposa Dr. to Mulberry Ave. On Monday, May 22, 2023. Traffic will be detoured from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. while the sidewalk and curb installation take place. Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes, allow themselves extra travel time and follow all construction signage.

On May 17, 2023, at approximately 9:15 a.m., officers with the Lake Havasu City Police Department responded to a residence in the 2500 block of McCulloch Boulevard North after reports of a shooting had occurred. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male inside the residence, identified as 19-year-old Lake Havasu City resident Arnell L. Bell. The victim had injuries consistent with being shot, and life-saving measures were attempted, however, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Detectives from the Lake Havasu City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit responded to the scene to investigate this incident. As a result of their investigation, 22-year-old Lake Havasu City resident Angel F. Caldera was arrested for Second Degree Murder. During his initial appearance, he was held on a $1,000,000.00 bond and transferred to the custody of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.

On May 15, 2023, at approximately 7:40 a.m., Lake Havasu City Police Officers responded to a vehicle collision within the intersection of Oro Grande Blvd. and Mohican Dr. Preliminary investigation indicates that a Toyota Camry, travelling north on Mohican Dr. failed to stop at a stop sign and a Jeep Grand Cherokee, travelling east on Oro Grande Blvd., collided with the Camry. The driver of the Camry, identified as eighty-two-year-old Jill Fetz, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The driver of the Grand Cherokee was transported to the Havasu Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Impairment is not believed to be a factor in this collision. This incident remains under investigation, and any further pertinent details that are learned will be released later.
