The Lake Havasu City Police Department is proud to announce its re-accreditation through the Arizona Association of Chiefs of Police (AACOP) Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ALEAP). Accreditation is a progressive and time-proven method of assisting law enforcement agencies in measuring and improving their overall performance. ALEAP is intended to provide law enforcement agencies in the state with an avenue for demonstrating that they meet commonly accepted best practices and industry standards for efficient, effective, productive, and quality operations. Police Chief Troy Stirling met with the ALEAP commission on January 25 for a review of the on-site visit and inspections that were conducted by ALEAP assessors. LHCPD was proudly awarded the certificate of re-accreditation on February 2.

The Lake Havasu City Council invites volunteer speakers to offer an invocation before the beginning of its Regular Meetings for the benefit and blessing of the City Council. Any individual or organization interested in offering an invocation at a City Council Regular Meeting can submit their names for participation in the lottery through an application located on the City’s website. The invocational speaker must be a resident of Lake Havasu City having resided in Lake Havasu City for at least one (1) year prior to March 1, 2024.

The Lake Havasu City Police Department would like to make the community aware of a recent local phone scam that has been reported. In this phone scam, the caller portrays themselves as a representative of customer service from Lake Havasu City. The caller identification number appears to show up as an official Lake Havasu City phone number (928) 855-2116. During these calls, the scammer attempts to solicit personal information from the people who they are calling.

Following the investigation conducted by Lake Havasu City Police Department detectives of the officer-involved shooting that occurred in Kingman on December 29, 2023, Sergeant Kenneth Morris has been released back to full duty. The suspect involved in the incident, 39-year-old Kingman resident Andrew Romero, has been released from Sunrise Hospital and was subsequently arrested by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on a felony warrant for aggravated assault on a police officer. He is awaiting extradition at the Clark County Detention Center.

In an effort to maintain the water distribution system, Lake Havasu City Water Division announces the closure of Swanson Ave. from Magnolia Dr. to Capri Blvd. The roadway will be closed to through traffic on Swanson Ave. from 9:00 pm Sunday, January 21, 2024, until 6:00 a.m. Monday, January 22, 2024, subject to weather and other conditions. Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes, allow themselves extra travel time and follow all construction signage.

Registration for Recreation Co-Ed basketball for 3rd-6th graders opens Wednesday, January 17th at 8am. Cost is $56 per player. City offices are closed on Monday, January 15, 2024, in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. Police and Fire Department services are unaffected, however administrative offices are closed. All City offices will resume normal schedules on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
